A Week in London – Learning from Ayse Habibe Kucuk
Last week I had the privilege to spend seven days in London with my mom, and the reason for our trip was truly special a workshop with the artist Ayse Habibe Kucuk.
It’s hard to put into words how much she impressed me. Ayse is such a genuine soul: calm, kind, down to earth, and radiating nothing but positive energy. I am grateful to now call her not only a colleague but also a friend.

During the workshop, we learned so much. We focused on handbuilding, but those who wished could also try wheel throwing. We created two large vases using the hand coiling technique, discovered new tricks and methods, and Ayse introduced us to handbuilding in a way so unique and inspiring that you can’t help but fall in love with ceramics all over again.
What struck me most is how obvious it is that ceramics is her greatest passion. With her academic background in sculpture, completed in Turkey, she brings a perspective that many others don’t have. She is a true master of her craft one of a kind.
Her studio is just as magical as she is: bright, warm, and welcoming. Because of her, London became an even more special place for me, and I truly believe this is not the end of our journey together. I’m certain we’ll cross paths and collaborate many more times in the future.
Another highlight was working with a different type of clay than what I’m used to. It was my very first time using it, and Ayse is a true expert in this material. Learning from her was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
This is not the end it’s just the beginning of something new and beautiful.
